From the Assessor’s Desk: Summer 2025
FIELD REVIEW/BUILDING PERMIT REVIEW NOTICE:
During the summer and fall months, the Assessor’s Office conducts property field reviews. The Assessor also reviews and finalizes all building permits and property improvements through the end of the year. The State of Michigan requires townships to maintain accurate and up-to-date property records through annual property reviews.
These reviews are necessary to ensure the accuracy of property record card data. They may include measuring the exterior of buildings, porches, decks, and driveways, verifying sketch data, and updating exterior photos of structures on the property. Field reviews are a critical part of calculating fair, accurate, and current property values across the township.
You may notice field reviews taking place in your neighborhood. Staff conducting these reviews will carry identification, wear brightly colored clothing or a safety vest, use an iPad for sketching and photographing, and carry a measuring wheel. The review vehicle will be clearly marked with ‘TOWNSHIP FIELD REVIEWS’.
If your property is scheduled for review this year, you will receive a postcard notification by mail. Before any measurement verification begins, staff will knock on your door to inform you of their presence.
Field reviews do not affect the tax base unless a building or addition is discovered that was never previously on the tax roll, or if there has been a loss to the property. The Assessor welcomes all questions and is committed to helping residents better understand Michigan property taxation.
