Our Story
The present Township of Berlin was organized in March 6, 1838, as the township of Cass. Cass township was christened by Alonzo Sessions, the first supervisor. The name Cass township was in recognition of Lewis Cass. On February 16, 1842 the name of the township was changed from Cass to Berlin.
The first land entry in the present township of Berlin was probably made in July 1833 by John E Morrison, who was likewise the first person to make a settlement in the township.
